The Academy team comprises of leading experts in the field of radiology and nuclear medicine, who are supported by professionals in education and marketing. Through sharing knowledge we aim to transform education and training on the latest advancements in PET-CT.

Senior Team

Dr Prakash Manoharan

Dr Prakash Manoharan

PET-CT Academy Director and Consultant Radiologist and Nuclear Medicine Physician

Dr Prakash Manoharan trained in medicine at the University of Bristol. He then undertook post graduate training in general medicine (MRCP) and radiology (FRCR). 

He is dually accredited in radiology and nuclear medicine with specialist cross sectional/nuclear medicine training at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals (fellowships in CT, MRI, onco-radiology and nuclear medicine).

After completing his USMLE, he undertook a further accredited specialist training/fellowship at The University of Michigan Health System, Ann Arbor, USA in molecular imaging, nuclear medicine and radionuclide targeted therapies. 

He is currently a Consultant Radiologist and Nuclear Medicine Physician at The Christie, a role which commenced in January 2007. 

His sub specialised interest is in onco-radiology, neuroendocrine tumours and HPB oncology.

In April 2016, he was appointed as the Academy Director at The Christie. 

This role includes providing clinical leadership in delivering PET-CT service to 70% of the contracted workload in England. 

He is also the Clinical Molecular Imaging and Radiology/Molecular radiotherapy & imaging research lead at The Christie. 

His research interest includes molecular and functional imaging looking at early biomarkers of response.

Professor Rikki Goddard-Fuller

Director of Christie Education

Professor Rikki Goddard-Fuller is the Director of Christie Education in Manchester, UK, with an innovative portfolio of local, national and international education work focused on realising learner potential and improving healthcare outcomes.

This is underpinned by a substantial career in Health Professions Education (both nationally and internationally) and the development of sector-leading curricula, programmes of study and assessment systems in previous senior education roles at the Universities of Leeds and Liverpool which generated exciting new initiatives in curriculum design, mobile technology, assessment and personalised learning across health professions and the continuum of undergraduate and postgraduate practice.

Rikki practices clinically as a Consultant Stroke Physician and Geriatrician.

Their main research interests focus primarily on assessment, working with a cross institutional group of research colleagues, which has led to over 200 key outputs (significant journal papers; invited and peer reviewed presentations to learned societies and institutions; educational consultancy). This portfolio of work centres on the ‘personalisation’ of assessment, to support individual learner journeys, drawing on impact-based research including the application of intelligent assessment design in campus and workplace-based assessment formats, assessor behaviours, mobile technology delivered assessment and the impact of sequential testing methodologies.

Rikki publishes and speaks regularly at leading international medical education conferences, and is an active PhD supervisor, with current students focusing on assessment and curriculum research.

Rikki holds a number of UK and international educational advisory roles, including acting as an assessment expert for the General Medical Council, and leadership of the GMC’s Tests of Competence Board. Rikki is the current Chair of the global ASPIRE Board and Executive Panel which focuses on excellence in Health Professions Education, set up by the Association of Medical Education in Europe (https://amee.org/aspire/) and additionally is a trustee and member of the Governing Committee of AMEE.

Dr Catherine Heaven

Dr Catherine Heaven

Dr Catherine Heaven is Director of Teaching, Learning and Quality at The Christie and Honorary Senior Lecturer at The University of Manchester. 

Cathy has a clinical and academic background. Her professional philosophy is of compassion, collaboration and innovation, with a focus on developing accessible, high-quality education that is evidence based and adaptable.

With over 30 years of experience in the field of multi-professional clinical education, she has specialised in the field of clinical communication, faculty development and leadership, and has led the development of a number of national and international programmes of education for health professionals of all disciplines. Cathy has published a number of papers in both communication, knowledge acquisition and behaviour change, and written chapters for and contributed to many books, workshops and conferences.

Dr Heather Williams

Dr Heather Williams

Dr Heather Williams MBE is a Consultant Medical Physicist and leader of the Nuclear Medicine group at The Christie and has extensive experience in a wide variety of Nuclear Medicine techniques. 

Publications include a range of novel imaging applications, including PET-CT. Dr Williams’ team provides subject specialist expertise in PET physics and clinical technology to the PET-CT Academy.

With over two decades working in
the field of education, Jo is a seasoned teaching professional committed to making learning impactful.

 

Driven by a lifelong love of
learning, she has a master’s degree in Educational Technology, a P.G.C.E and a diploma in Digital Learning Design.

 

This powerful combination of deep
pedagogical understanding and innovative design thinking drives the leadership of the Academy’s education programme.

Dr Chander is dually accredited in Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine – and has specialist interest in neuroendocrine tumours. Her experience includes a range of PET tracers including 18FDG, G68 DOTANOC and 18F DOPA.

Dr Rohit Kochhar

Dr Kochhar is a consultant oncoradiologist and a member of the UK National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Colorectal CSG with a specialist interest in peritoneal tumours, anal cancers and Education.

Dr Mak is a diagnostic oncology radiologist with a specialist interest in post-treatment brain tumour, head and neck cancer and haematological malignancy.

Dr Thomas Westwood

Dr Westwood is an Oncology Radiologist with a specialist interest in nuclear medicine and molecular Imaging. His experience includes a range of PET tracers including 18 FDG, 68Ga-DOTANOC, 18F-Choline and 18F-DOPA.

Ben Taylor

Consultant Radiologist at The Christie and Clinical Supervisor for the PET-CT Academy

Dr Taylor graduated from Sheffield University in 1991 and trained in Radiology in Manchester with a fellowship in Toronto. 

He became a consultant at the Christie in 2001 and has a wide range of interests in oncological radiology including PET-CT and image guided biopsy. 

He is an Advisory Editor for the journal Clinical Radiology and has contributed to the NICE guidelines for Cancer of Unknown Primary (2010) and Bladder Cancer (2015).

Nuclear Medicine

Andrew Connolly

Andrew Connolly

Deputy Lead Nuclear Technician at The Christie and Content Developer for the PET-CT Academy

Qualified as a radiographer in 1986, qualified to work in Nuclear Medicine in 1996; have worked in 3 Nuclear Medicine departments and experienced a wide variety of scanning; became involved in PET-CT scanning about 2005 and involved in training in the last couple of years. Can be found treading the boards in amateur dramatics and writing short stories when not involved in Nuclear Medicine.

Jose Calero

Head of Radiopharmacy at The Christie

José Calero, (BPharm, MSc, GPhC) started his professional career as a Radiopharmacist at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, United Kingdom. Mr Calero has leaded The Christie Radiopharmacy as a Consultant Radiopharmacist and Head of Radiopharmacy. In October 2014, Mr Calero became a member of the UK Radiopharmacy Group of experts.

Principal Physicist at The Christie and Lead Physicist for the PET-CT Academy

In my current role I am responsible for providing medical physics support for clinical and research PET imaging in Christie Hospital, and research PET at the University of Manchester’s Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre (WMIC). I am also involved with teaching at the Universities of Manchester and Salford, and supervisor students at M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels.

Rachelle Wood

Rachelle Wood

Senior Clinical Skills Trainer

Rachelle is an Operating Department Practitioner who qualified in 2010.

She started working at the Christie as an Anaesthetics and Recovery Practitioner and also trained to administer chemotherapy.

In June 2022 she started working as a Senior Clinical Skills Trainer with the Christie School of Oncology and then in September 2023 I took on an additional role as trainer/assessor for IV cannulation with the PET-CT Academy where Rachelle delivers IV cannulation simulation workshops and conducts a simulated assessment to ensure delegates are safe to practice IV cannulation.

Rachelle loves meeting new people and helping them to learn a new skill.

Yemi joined the PET-CT Academy in June 2024, having previously worked as a Marketing and Communications Officer at Sheffield Hallam University.

She is a creative who enjoys helping people become who they want to be. Outside of work, she can be found cooking or spending time with her family.

Joanne Walker

Administrator

Joanne joined the PET-CT Academy in September 2024, and plays a key role in supporting education and training programmes, coordinating events, contributing to marketing initiatives and managing and reporting on a wide range of data, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Joanne holds a BSc and brings a deep commitment to teamwork and respect in the workplace, values she believes are essential for both patient care and staff well-being. Outside of her professional life, she has a keen interest in complementary therapy, which reflects her holistic approach to health and wellness.

Georgina Hayes

Alliance Medical HR Director

Georgina has been part of the Alliance Medical HR team since 2011 and took up responsibility as HR Director in 2019. Georgina is an experienced HR professional with proven accountability covering all aspects of the workforce agenda.

Prior to joining Alliance Medical, Georgina started her early career in training and development before progressing to HR management roles in the Health & Wellbeing sector. Georgina has a BSc Hons degree in Sociology and Education from Cardiff University.

Angela Meadows

Alliance Medical Molecular Imaging Specialist Advisor

Angela has 20 years’ experience working in the field of PET-CT Imaging and has worked within the NHS and Independent Sector throughout this time. Angela is currently Head of PET-CT Clinical Services for Alliance Medical, providing support to the clinical teams on all matters governance and compliance specific to PET-CT. In addition, Angela has a particular interest in Research and Clinical Education and is an advisor for the Society of Radiographers Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Advisory Group.

James Fletcher

Alliance Medical Head of Resourcing and Learning 

James has over 20 years’ experience in L & D and has headed up L & D departments for several large organisations such as Capita IT Services and Wockhardt Pharmaceuticals. Currently responsible for all things L & D-related at Alliance Medical, working with key partners and providers to ensure our clinical, non-clinical and radiopharmacy workforce have the skills they need to perform and develop their careers.
